4G coming to India in 2014
India is expected to start its 4G services next year. Right now, one operator Bharti Air-tel has some 4G coverage, but it’s very limited.
Meanwhile, a company called Reliance Jio is readying for its 4G launch in 2014 and Bharti Airtel has acquired additional circles from a company called Qualcomm for expanding its existing 4G services. Bharti Airtel has some 4G network but very limited. Vodafone hasn’t announced its 4G plans as of now in India.
Even though developments suggests that Indian telecom operators are preparing to launch 4G technology, the biggest hurdle remains the high upfront cost of deploying wireless technology of the next-generation and also lack of cheap 4G enabled mobile hand devices in India.
The Indian government allotted broadband wireless access spectrum to telecom companies in mid-2010, but only one telecom operator--Bharti Airtel--has launched it to date and only in 3 cities. The Indian telecom companies will have to establish a strong 4G infrastructure to see it launch later in years seamlessly.(from CNN.com)
