T-Mobile's Houston signal is a stronger today

T-Mobile is boosting its indoor signal strength with Extended Range LTE, or 700 MHz low-band spectrum, that is now live in the Houston area, the company announced Tuesday.

This new spectrum, which is the radio airwaves that carry wireless signals, provides coverage that is four times stronger in buildings and travels twice as far from cell towers.

"It's going to expand the coverage," said Alisa Arner, T-Mobile's south central area vice president.

The 27 devices that can use this Extended Range LTE include the Samsung Galaxy Note5, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge&, and the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus that will hit stores Friday. Older iPhones are not compatible.

The Extended Range LTE, also called Band 12 or low-band 700MHz A-Block spectrum, has been rolled out in 170 areas across the country and is on track to hit about 350 areas in the next three months.
Areas near Houston that are also receiving the new spectrum include: Atascocita, Baytown, Bellaire, Brookshire, Bryan, Cinco Ranch, College Station, Conroe, Friendswood, Galveston, Hedwig Village, Hitchcock, Huntsville, Jamaica Beach, Jersey Village, Katy, Kemah, League City, Lufkin, Missouri City, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Pearland, Seabrook, Spring, Stafford, Sugar Land, Texas City, The Woodlands, Tomball and Willis.(from chron.com)
